What is Mom's Thrift? Mom's Thrift is a resource for families who want to save money. We feature articles, ideas, and resources that will help families save money.

The whole family? Yes. The main reason that people choose to live frugally is to save money. However, the everyday choices of any family affect the entire family. We encourage full family participation. We also believe that when families share goals and interests there is less friction.

If children understand why their parents are thrifty there is less complaining. If children get actively involved then it becomes a more engaging subject for them. When children enjoy cheap family activities and are allowed to give input they begin to think more creatively. Creativity is the spark that unlocks a child's ability and interest.

Mom's ideas on thriftiness: Thrift is not sacrificing enjoyment! No one wants to sacrifice their quality of life to save oodles of money. This would cause a lot of family issues. What is the point of saving oodles of money if your family is unhappy?

So, let's start with money. Money is a means to an end. We use it to pay bills and buy things. When possible, we try to save as much of it as possible. Why? So that we can buy more of what we need or want.

A thrifty person cuts corners. They want to enjoy life while getting more of what they need or want. To do this we find ways to spend less money on what we normally buy. We find ways to spend less on activities while maintaining our level of enjoyment.
